Ironies don’t last

Ironic poet is on an early bird not catching
Late worm thinking better late than never,
In a delicious irony connecting two adages.

Bird would rather leave the sayings lonely
And savor epicurean delight of shooting
To catch early worms on a morning walk.

The worm may be a rotting couch potato
Or has to catch early bird discounts later
And decides to skip today’s morning walk.

Even worm turns and who bites the dust,
Birds better in bush than worms in birds?
The ironies do not last all through the day.

(remembering Billy Collins poem Adages)
